"Friends
for Fun, Safety, and Knowledge"
Welcome
to Louisiana's newest chapter of the Gold Wing Road Rider's Association.
The LA-O chapter is located in Franklinton, Louisiana and was chartered
in June 2004. While the chapter is located in Franklinton our members
come from surrounding Louisiana parishes as well as surrounding Mississippi
counties. Franklinton is the home of the world's largest free fair, the
Washington Parish Free Fair. The Washington Parish Free Fair is located
on beautiful grounds in Historic Franklinton and offers visitors a fantastic
experience during October of each year.
LA-O
Chapter Directors Gladys And Ernest Vernon
Welcome to LA-O, Louisiana’s
newest GWRRA Chapter.
We have been GWRRA members since 1997, owning
a 1986 Aspencade 1200, to which we attached a sidecar in 2000. After several
years, we obtained a 1997 Gold Wing 1500 with a California II sidecar
which we still enjoy today. After riding for quite some time with a nearby
Mississippi chapter, we became Charter members of LA-O when it organized
in June 2004.
We are delighted to be serving as Chapter Directors for 2008 and have
three goals for our GWRRA family: have FUN, be SAFE [by taking advantage
of our safety education programs], and GROW. We need you to meet these
goals. Come join us on a ride [check our calendar] or come visit with
us! We welcome you to attend our monthly gatherings, which are held the
first Friday of each month at 6 p.m. at Pine’s Seafood Restaurant
in Pine, LA. Our gatherings are casual and friendly and open to everyone
who owns a motorcycle. Hope to see you soon!

At Chapter O's Christmas party,
members donated all sorts of canned goods and non-perishable food items.
These items were loaded in a couple of vehicles and brought to local Second
Harvest Food Bank in Franklinton,La. Seen here are members and a representative

Louisiana District Staff Meeting
January 17, 2009
INTRODUCTIONS / REMARKS
Chapter O was the best represented Chapter. All Chapter Officers &
Staff attended, plus interested member.
Goals and accomplishments of Chapter were reported. Goals continue to
be: Have FUN, Be SAFE, GROW.
MEMBER ENHANCEMENT
Membership Enhancement was a major focus of the meeting. Errol and Nancy
Pellegrin are District MED Directors and are implementing new programs
and procedures for the District in an attempt to better track why GWRRA
is losing some members; why members are not attending/participating in
meetings, rides, etc. They will be visiting each Chapter in the next few
months to talk further about this program. Last year, of the five states
in the Region, Louisiana was second in recruiting new members [201]. Texas
recruited 521. Another initiative is to remind GWRRA members to keep their
membership current. Our sign-in sheet tonight asked for your GWRRA number.
It’s a way to remind you that you either need to renew your membership
or that your membership is about to expire. We’ll also have some
additional reporting requirements on status of active/inactive members
Chapter O received very favorable feedback on our Phone Tree Coordination
and Member Enhancement program of sending get well, sympathy, birthday,
anniversary cards, etc. as part of Chapter O’s MED efforts. Congrats
to Bonnie!
Another item mentioned was the development of a GWRRA NEW MEMBER KIT.
Some people just aren’t familiar with what GWRRA is all about and
what it stands for. We’ll be developing one for Chapter O.
Hangar Tags are also being re-done, which is a great item to let bikers
you see know of the GWRRA Chapter in the area.
LEADERSHIP TRAINING
District Trainer Gene Stanley encouraged monthly Chapter training on GWRRA
organization/benefits, policies, etc. Also encouraged personal leadership
training courses [HORIZONS IN AUGUST 09] and development programs. Some
Chapters are hosting “training” at homes, restaurants, etc.
once every month, quarterly, etc. Short and fun. Let us know of your interest.
We could do this.
RIDER EDUCATION
The District Rider Education Safety Weekend was a major topic of discussion.
Event is Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Esler Field in Pineville, LA Participation
will improve your skills and allow advancement in the Rider Safety Levels
program. Talk to Frank Gendusa or the CDs for further information or check
the District website www.gwrra.-la.org or
Mike Jastram 225-964-3999. Program will be canceled if interest is low.
WINGLESS WEEKEND
CDs represented Chapter O. Only ones attending. Chapter unable to participate
in Chapter Cup competition, which required 6 members. Games were lively
and entertaining. Food was good. Great attendance with approximately 100
Friday evening and 158 on Saturday.
PATCHES
A slight increase of $.50 has been implemented. See CD if you’d
like to get new patches for your vests. Rider Ed patches can be ordered
also.
CHAPTER EVENTS
